Installing floor protection in both grottoes and grottoes viewing platforms was necessary for two reasons. First, it was necessary to protect the original flooring from damage during further work. Second, it was necessary to level the floor in preparation for the construction of scaffolding for the restoration surveys that will follow. The two covered entrances, or grotto viewing platforms, will help maintain tourist traffic. Otherwise, the poor to disastrous condition of the stucco decorations in the grottos would prevent visitors from safely entering. Thanks to the platforms, visitors will be able to observe the current state of the grottos and the work in progress in the upcoming years.
The wood used for the floor protection (plank covering for wooden grate) comes from the Archbishop’s forests. It was cut and prepared at the Archbishop’s Sawmill in Vápenná. We would like to thank the Archbishop’s Forests and Estates Olomouc s. r. o.
The floor protection and grottoes viewing platforms for the Archbishopric of Olomouc were created by Tomáš Pavelka.
